Meet the team from Milk the Cow
Let us introduce ourselves
We specialise in artisan cheese and boutique booze paired with good, old-fashioned country hospitality.
Milk the Cow is all about the cheese. Stocking over 150 cheeses from all around the world, our ever-changing selection is curated vigilantly by expert cheesemongers so you can experience fromage at its very best.
All our cheeses are available to enjoy at the fromagerie or take away. You can order by gram, or consult with our cheesemongers to find your own personal favourites among our selection.
To make life really easy, we feature a weekly-changing selection of Cheesemonger’s Choice cheeseboards – loaded with everything that is seasonal, ripe and ready to eat. Choose from three, four or five cheeses on the boards, along with accompaniments including gourmet condiments, breads and housemade lavosh.
One of our much loved pastimes is pairing our cheeses with all manner of boutique booze. To that end, you’ll find a great array of cheese flights on our menu – four cheeses matched to four different wines, beers, ciders, sakes or whiskies, depending on your personal preference.
We are also quite skilled with a cocktail shaker and choose to garnish each of our house specialty cocktails with a wedge of artisan cheese.
Our cheese flights and Cheesemonger’s Choice cheeseboards change every Tuesday, so our cheese lovers can explore new cheeses every week.
And we can’t forget our cheese fondue, gooey little pots of cheesy pleasure that bring people from far and wide. Our Grundlegend Fondue has been voted one of The Urban List’s 50 Meals You Should Have Eaten if You Live in Melbourne.
We specialise in custom cheese towers as a beautiful cake alternative for weddings and parties, seasonal gift hampers, and, most Monday nights you’ll find a cheese event on here at Milk the Cow – from Perfect Match Mondays to our signature Chef Series, where we invite some of Melbourne’s best chefs to create four-course menus with our cheese, we love nothing more than a bustling fromagerie full of happy guests.
Milk the Cow is an ideal destination for a romantic date, a girl’s night out, a pre-dinner/post-dinner drink, your next corporate function or just about any occasion… if we do say so ourselves.
If you have an event coming up, we would love to talk to you more about it. Our tasting table is designed especially for groups. Call 9537 2225 or email email@example.com to chat about your next event.
Expert Cheesemongers & Boozemongers
Can’t decide which cheese to eat, or booze to quaff with it? Our attentive staff is here to help you out, happy to hold the hands of cheese newbies and equally talk artisanal techniques and flavour profiles with other cheese fiends.
With too many cheeses to mention on our menu, you may be wondering who it is that is taking care of our inventory and what exactly you can get your hands on at Milk the Cow:
Laura Lown is our Regional Manager and Cheesemonger, hailing from the UK directly to our new home in St Kilda, Melbourne.
Laura has worked in the cheese industry for over seven years now, beginning her career as a cheesemonger at Paxton & Whitfield, an infamous cheese shop in London. She is a self-confessed cheese nerd who can tell you the story of any cheese from our cabinet – where it was made, how it was made, who made it and what it tastes like.
Having over 150 types of cheeses and two locations in Carlton and St Kilda, we also have our amazing Assistant Cheesemongers who help take care of our cheeses and will happily spin you fairytales of fromage.
Cheese, as it so happens, goes really well with booze.
Our cocktails are exceptional and every single one arrives with a cheese garnish. We have carefully designed our cocktail list to match with our cheeses. From the classics, to our version of the classics, to cornflake-infused milk and beyond, our Bartenders are only too happy to mix you up whatever you like, from late afternoon to late into the night.
One of our favourite pastimes is to pair booze and cheese. Our Boozemongers can tell you exactly which of our local and imported wines, beers and ciders will go with your selected cheeses so you can enjoy both to their full potential.
Catherine is our Office Manager, you can call her with event enquiries, to book cheese tower consultations, make reservations for larger groups or if you have any questions at all about Milk the Cow.
Last but not least, the brains behind the family owned Milk the Cow is Founder and Managing Director Daniel Verheyen. With a 20-year career in hospitality, Daniel’s specialty is in unique concepts featuring outstanding food and booze, matched with easygoing service to create an exceptional experience.
We hope to see you soon at Milk the Cow.
